ANDERSON ROAD RUNNERS CLUB |
|
NOVEMBER-DECEMBER2000 |
Race Directors:
Fun Run Director: Frank St. Phillips
Anderson Road Runners will
have a chance to get together, socialize, and eat (no desserts ‘til you clean
your plate) at the Annual Christmas Party on December 04th from 6:30
p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Pavilion at Mounds State Park. Each club member is asked to bring a covered
dish, salad or dessert along with table service and drink. The club will be
providing meat, not cold cuts.
We will not be having the awards or officer elections at this
meeting. This evening is for sharing the holiday spirit with family and fellow
runners over food and drink.
What a fantastic day for a run
through the trails of Mounds State Park! It was very satisfying to again see
the great turn out for this event. Our registration count was right at 400, see
our website for a list of the finishers. The weather and location helped us
quite a bit but we should never forget our volunteers and sponsors.
Major volunteers and chair
people as follows: Greg Smith -
registration, finish chute and clean up.
Wally Post family -registration.
Peggy Hart – pre registration and registration, Robin and Hank Gerhart
family - recruitment and packet pick up, Diane and Charlie Mosbrucker - course
volunteer coordination and finish line,
Kendra Hitchcock - recruitment, promotion, and course volunteers, Tommy
and Lori Goodson - mile splits committee, Lonnie Smith - furnished the sound
system and lead course on ATV, Jim Hoffman - sponsor recruitment and
promotion, Fred and Becky Fulcher -
water stations, Frank St. Phillips - fun run., Daneen Colligan -
pre-registration., Jamie and Barry
Banks family - refreshments, pavilion and clean up, Ingrid Childs – shirt design coordination and awards, John Stephenson
- treasurer and finish line, Evan Achenbach - equipment and finish line, Mike
and Paige Truman - course preparation, Tim Thomas - course preparation, Madison Co. Emergency Management - radio
communications and logistical support, Chesterfield Volunteer Fire Dept. - EMT
support and Mounds State Park staff -
host and logistical support.
Several other club members also helped by taking RTM
flyers to races throughout the state and promoted the race with their friends
and family. It takes everyone pulling together to make something like this
happen and bring people back year after year.
Thank you everyone!
In addition, I would like to
highlight those individuals that helped me the most behind the scenes. Ingrid Childs, Robin Gerhart, John
Stephenson, Jim Hoffman and Peggy Hart were always there to guide and assist me
whenever I needed "a little extra".
Jim is the unsung hero because of his sponsor recruitment and
promotional efforts to secure radio spots for RTM.
Now for sponsors:
Household Finance, WERK / WHIT / WHBU radio stations. A2Z Promotions, Anderson
Foot and Ankle Center, Standt's of Anderson, Gregory Busing DDS, Gwinn's Drug
Store, Surbaugh and Son Realtor, The Herald Bulletin, Citizen's Travel, Baylor
and Associates and Star China. Without
this financial support, we could not have the race.
As many ARRC members know, we
announced on race day that Household Finance has returned to become our major
sponsor again. Their sponsorship contribution will be used to form the
beginning of a scholarship fund. ARRC
hopes to award the first scholarship(s) in 2001. Expect more on this at our next annual meeting, scheduled for
February 10, 2001.
Run the Mounds Race is ARRC at
it's best. November 04, 2001 will be
the 20th annual race, so mark your calendar now. Let’s keep it going!
See you on the trail...
Bob
The Anderson Road Runners apologize for the delay in
posting the race results. Due to the
very large number of race day entries, there was an abnormal amount of post
race data entry. Also, this year there
were several unregistered runners entering the finish chute which complicated
our timing and scoring system. We put
in extra time and effort to make the results as accurate as possible. Thank you for your patience and we hope to
see you November 04, 2001.
Need help with your Christmas shopping, call
Tommy Goodson. Tommy still has a
limited supply of ARRC singlets and vest for sale with the ARRC logo. Bob Hart
still has a few X-Large and XX-Large sweatshirts from the Mounds Run for sale.
If you call early, gift-wrapping may be included at no charge! Call today to
avoid the holiday rush.
We have had numerous requests from members and
non-members about forming a walking program.
At this no one has been willing to step forward to get the group
organized. If anyone has an interest in
undertaking this task the officers would assist in any way possible to get a
walking program up and walking. A
non-member would also be welcomed to take on this responsibility.
CONGRATULATIONS to the Anderson University Men’s
Cross Country team and the Ladies runners, Lisa Nicholson and Amber Sigler who
ran in the NCAA Division III National Cross Country Championship race in
Spokane, Washington on November 18, 2000.
Great job men, ladies and coaching staff!
Annual Anderson Road Runners Club awards and
business meeting will be held Saturday, February 10, 2001, at Tanglewood. Social hour with snacks and drinks will
begin at 6:00 p.m. Our guest speaker will talk from 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. At 7:30 p.m. awards will be distributed with
the business meeting and election of officers following.
If you are interested in an officer or race director
position please contact one of the current officers. Our club is always in need of willing people to keep moving
forward.
Membership forms for 2001 will be available in the
January-February 2001 PACER. Please do
not submit your membership on an old form.
If you do not receive the 2001 membership for please contact an officer.
Always, we thank the following
businesses and individuals for making the White River Run and Run the Mounds
possible. Without these folks and our
many, many fine volunteers our club could not offer these two great running
events.

Just the other day it seems like we were discussing
how much water we ought store up, did we have enough fire wood and
non-perishable food and would our money still be in the bank. The only things we didn’t worry about were
the running paths, running shoes and our watches keeping time (no matter what
date they read). As we (at least for me) watched the year 2000 begin all around
the world it seemed our fears faded quicker than most of us run. It was living and running as planned.
Nancy King, Kent Lockhart and company did a
fantastic job of getting the Thursday Night Point Races off and running. Frankie St. Phillips stepped in and did a
terrific job as the children’s Fun Run director. Tony Martin continued to improve the White River Run and increase
the attendance. Wally Post and Greg
Smith once again provided a varied and challenging Road Race Series. Run the Mounds; directed by Bob Hart once
again saw an increase in runners. Various members grouped together and reached
out to the running community on behalf ARRC. And last, but not least, it is
you, our members who keep all of these endeavors going with your desire to
participate in the running and volunteering.
Without your support, enthusiasm, and love for running and fellow
runners our club would not be so successful!
May God
bless you each and everyone as we continue into the millenium.
